Farming families don’t go on vacation, least wise not us, and not when it’s summer anyway. I don’t know why, but one year dad decided to give it a go. I don’t know who he found to take care of our animals, but we were going to the coast. We were all so excited. You have no idea. A whole weekend off the farm. Holy cow!
Laurie got to ride up front with mom and dad while Rich, Ken, and I rode in the back of the pickup on the mattress we put back there for the boys to sleep on. After about an hour on the road, I let out the tiniest of poofs. The rotten smell hit my nose and I couldn’t believe that smell came from me. It took about 20 seconds for the smell to hit Rich and Ken. “Oh my god,” they each yelled. “Knock it off Andee, that’s disgusting.” They were right. It was. But I couldn’t stop, especially when I saw their faces scrunch up from the stench. They buried themselves super hard in their pillows to keep from getting any more in their nostrils.
I started laughing until my whole body was shaking which in turn just made it easier to let out all that gas. I buried my face in my pillow too because it was so bad. What the heck did I even eat. It was a good hour before the boys couldn’t take it anymore and were pounding on the window to the cab of the truck.
Dad pulled over and stomped to the back. He didn’t like having to stop. He opened the back hatch and took a huge step back. I sat there looking as innocent as I could. My brothers each, simultaneously, pointed their finger at me, while keeping their pillow firmly pressed against their mouth. “Andee, climb on out.” He opened up the side windows to get some air flowing. Laurie had to jump in the back while I got to sit between mom and dad up front. If looks could kill ...
Don’t know why another fart never came out. Could be dad told me I better not or just the fact that they all escaped in the back while I gassed my brothers out. Totally worth it since I got to ride up front and see where we were heading. I looked back at my siblings bundled and freezing cause the windows were open. It wasn’t a particularly warm day.
We spent two nights on the coast fishing, playing, and not doing a single chore. It was great. Weird thing was though when we got home, I was so glad to be there. I guess you can’t take the farm out of the farmer’s daughter.
Seriously?!? You were a little imp. That's hilarious!
